Why?
The way we make sense of the world is failing. We can’t deal with the straggling, sprawling moment of intersecting crises and collapse; it is too vast, too complicated. Overwhelming. We cannot fully ‘know’ this moment, when everything is sliding out of tilt.
Our reliance on a rational, logical way of knowing has led to this confusing, unstable moment, and holds us back from making sense of it. But reason, alone, is not our only way of knowing.
Our first book, Times Long Told, reaches back to an era before reason and logic, when we understood the world through the emotive arts; song and myth, fairytale and folklore - a more storied and social understanding; a knowing and a feeling.
The need to broaden our awareness isn’t fluffy new-age woo-woo, it's backed by that most logical of the arts; the science has finally caught up with the stories, and we now know that our left and right brains grapple help us understand and engage in different ways.
Culturally, over centuries and generations, we have prioritised our logical left brain. KIN+KEN inclines us back towards the empathic right, through stories and gatherings that help us make sense of things again.
Who?
KIN+KEN was founded by serial social entrepreneur, and author of Times Long Told, Tim Frenneaux, following ten years of curating his radical book club Adventurous Ink.
He’s spent the past decade immersed in books, voraciously reading the work of travel writers, naturalists and philosophers, books that describe how we think, feel and function and how we relate to each other and the rest of the natural world.
His extensive learning and unlearning led him to become a pioneering a regenerative culture designer specialising in imagination and emotional intelligence.
The good folk at the Doughnut Economics Action Lab have very generously called him a thought leader.
KIN+KEN is the result of a lifetime trying to make sense of the world and help others share that understanding.
