Where the magic happens
Tellings are self organising spaces to dwell for a moment with the stories and ideas we share.
Something happens when you start to make sense of things alongside others. Everyone has their own take, brings their own perspective; as we listen to each other we discover new angles and fresh insights that reveal the rich tapestry of experience.
You might have heard the story about the blindfolded folk encountering an elephant? The guy touching the trunk thinks it’s a snake, the gal with the ear thinks it’s a fan. Someone feeling the heft of it’s side concludes it’s a wall, and so on. Only by sharing their different perspectives can they discover the big picture.
Through talking about the stories we’ve read, and listening to others, the stories take on a new form too; sensed and felt, not just known.
This is a kind of magic, so yes, we call it a ritual.
How Do They Work?
This is for everyone.
KIN+KEN is for everyone.
Anyone who has read a chapter can attend or host a Telling.
These are not clever book clubs or exclusive in-crowd gatherings, just spaces for people who are noticing what is happening in the world to get together with others.
These might be weighty issues we’re dealing with, but we carry them more lightly when we shoulder the load between us. .
We imagine Tellings popping up in bars and cafes, campuses and workplaces. Anyone can host a Telling anywhere, all you need is periodical and a quiet corner to gather in.

You don’t need any experience to host a Telling, we’ll provide all the guidance and suggestions you need to make a start and make it your own.
Attend a Telling
Tellings will always be free, and open to anyone.
Eventually, we plan to map upcoming reader-organised Tellings.
